This Year at the Keys -- What You Want to Know

——- Get ready to Shake Your Keys — Frederick’s team is back!

Earlier this month, The City of Frederick’s aldermen unanimously approved a new one-year lease of the City-owned Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium facility with the Frederick Keys team. The decision included a drop in rent from $100,000 per year to $50,000 and includes three mutual one-year extension options. The renegotiated terms came in acknowledgement of the team’s first season without its Baltimore Orioles affiliation, as well as a year of attendance lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City is excited to see the team return to action. The baseball organization serves not only as a popular entertainment option for local residents, but also as an economic driver of tourism spending and a sizable local employer.

Due to the restructuring decisions made by Major League Baseball last year, the 2021 Keys will play in a newly created MLB Draft League — with college juniors and seniors looking to show scouts what they can do ahead of the major league draft.

The fan experience will be very similar to what Keys fans love about attending a game at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. The most notable change that fans may notice is a shorter season. The only reason for this is MLB Draft League players are mostly college students and are MLB Draft eligible. Accordingly, the Keys season won’t start until the collegiate seasons end.

There will be 14  fireworks shows, and countless promotional and theme Nights.  Our promotional calendar is a staggered release this year so I cant say everything that is happening but there will still be multiple jersey auctions, giveaways, and tons of community involvement.

As far as COVID is concerned we are encouraging fans to continue to wear their masks while inside Nymeo Field, but this is not mandatory. All Keys staff will continue to be masked.

“We all missed the Keys last year and we all missed baseball, but more than anything I think we all missed each other! This season we welcome new and returning fans alike to Nymeo Field to not only embrace this new era of Keys baseball, but of our community as well. Our promotional schedule is designed to do just that.”
