City Business Resource: One-Stop Shop Permitting

In an effort to streamline required processes, the City of Frederick offers same-day permitting to businesses at the One-Stop Shop on every Tuesday from 8am to 11am.

We caught up with three recent business participants to learn more about the experience.

I found the one stop option for permitting very helpful. Once I knew what I needed and I was prepared it was a very seem-less process. No one was trying to "trip you up" — they were all very helpful yet protective of standards and procedures. I would recommend it to anyone that needs to change a business licenses, permitting etc.

I had an unusual situation. I decided to open a spa inside Hawaiian Tan, 4 S. McCain Drive. I needed a zoning permit in order to be licensed with the Md Cosmetology Board.

Mary Beall (City Permits Technician) informed me of the One Stop Shop and the hours of business. Every Tuesday 8-11am. She made sure I had the right paperwork for the individual departments and everything I needed from the property management.

I arrived around 9:30am. Several people were ahead of me. I watched the interaction between staff and applicants. Everything went smoothly. I was relaxed when it was my turn. Each stop was BOOM! Signed forms. Next desk, BOOM. Tell me about your business. Signed off. BOOM! Next desk. More questions. Signed off. Next. Application approved. Ms. Beall gave me instructions and the names to call to schedule the actual location inspections. Done by 11am!! The entire process would’ve taken 2 weeks otherwise!! 2 WEEKS! Nobody has time for that!

I was expanding my barbershop. The staff [at the One Stop Shop] made my visit very smooth. I would recommend the process to other business owners. It’s the fastest and easiest way to get permits for your business or home with a full understanding of the rules and regulations required to do so.
