Groundbreaking for Major Transportation Route through City

On September 28th, the City of Frederick formally celebrated the groundbreaking of the construction for the section of Christopher’s Crossing between Clover Ridge and Walter Martz Road.

The new segment will connect the existing endpoint of Christopher’s Crossing in Clover Ridge to the intersection of Walter Martz Road and Poole Jones Road. Christopher’s Crossing ultimately extends from US 15 north of the City to US 40 west of the City.

“This connection is essential to the future development of the City-owned Sanner Farm, which includes multiple public facilities and is vital to providing multiple safe and efficient connections from residential areas in the northwest to downtown Frederick and US 15,” O’Connor said.

The construction contract was awarded to C. William Hetzer Inc. for $4,929,544.85, with completion expected in June of 2020.

“This infrastructure will make a big difference to commuters in the Christopher’s Crossing neighborhood, and others in NAC 3,” O’Connor said. “It’s a great day when we can work on much needed public infrastructure.”
