Growth at Float Frederick Prompts Rebranding

Inspired by the success of its local operations, flotation therapy business Float Frederick recently announced a name change designed to facilitate expansion into new regional marketplaces. Rebranded as "Light Side Floats," the company has already initiated plans to grow beyond its Frederick headquarters -- with hopes of opening a second Maryland location late next Spring.

Float Frederick opened in September 2016. Owners Tom and Alyssa Palermo started the facility after discovering flotation therapy in searching for non-narcotic pain management methods. After discovering the therapy worked for Tom Palermo's back pain, the couple wanted to find a way to bring the natural relaxation and pain relief to the Greater Frederick area.

The facility features five full-sized flotation suites and two hydro massage tables. Since its opening, Light Side Floats has hosted more than 10,000 floats.

Tom Palermo says the facility had done so much good in the Frederick community that the decision was made to expand into the Columbia area. "We needed a name that could grow with us into other markets," he said. The owners are currently in the design phase of their expansion.

The Department of Economic Development is thrilled to see a City business expand through new market development. We are excited for Tom and Alyssa Palermo as they rebrand Light Side Floats and add additional locations to serve a wider regional market.
