Developers St. John Properties and Matan Companies have played major roles in the growth of the region. We took the opportunity to chat with Danny Severn, Director of Development at St. John Properties and Brian Morris, Development Coordinator at Matan Companies to learn about their company’s development projects, as well as the trends of the growth they are seeing first hand.
Matan Companies has been instrumental in the development of Riverside Corporate Park and Riverside Research Park with the development of over 750,000 SF of Class A office space and lab space. Between both parks, the company has the ability to accommodate an additional 1 million SF of office, lab, and industrial space.
St. John Properties was one of the first developers to enter the commercial real estate market on the Northeast side of the City. Over time, the company’s Riverside Technology Park has expanded into a half million square foot R&D/flex office project and become a cornerstone of one of the hottest commercial areas in the greater Frederick region.
Mixed-use development has become an increasingly popular model within the American real estate sector. Given Frederick’s long tradition of a strong community-feel and its already vibrant downtown core, it is hardly surprising this trend has been enthusiastically embraced locally. Earlier this year, Wilcoxon – a leading producer of vibration monitoring solutions for over 55 years – signed a 42,000SF lease with St. John’s Properties at 8435 Progress Drive and announced plans to relocate operations to the City of Frederick. The company, which brings over 100 employees to Frederick, is now targeting an early October opening for the new facility.
