Frederick Shines at 2024 MEDA Annual Conference

This month, MEDA (Maryland Economic Development Association) hosted it's Annual Conference in Cambridge, Maryland. The three-day event gathered economic development leaders from across the state to share ideas and strengthen connections.

The conference theme explored Maryland’s competitive assets while analyzing strategies crucial for the state’s future success. Topics ranged from the strategic role of AI in the economy to outdoor recreation as an economic driver to housing affordability & availability, and beyond. Attendees were also given access to a special panel discussion featuring the state's cabinet secretaries which provided insight on Governor Moore's initiatives.

Throughout the conference, Frederick played a prominent role— including in conference leadership, support, sponsorship, and notable honorees.

Frederick highlights included:

  • MEDA Board President and The City of Frederick: Department of Economic Development Director Richard Griffin, AICP, CEcD presided over the conference.

  • Frederick's own Karlys Kline was named MEDA Volunteer of the Year for her initiatives to support economic growth and vitality in our community.

  • Frederick County's Katie Stevens was honored with MEDA's Rising Star award.

  • Frederick County received an award in recognition of its Agricultural Innovation Grant.

  • And Frederick County Division of Economic Opportunity Director Lara Fritts was tapped to serve on a panel about retaining and growing companies, "How DEI can help economic developers improve business outcomes."

The Maryland Economic Development Association promotes the economic well-being of Maryland by working to improve the state’s business climate and the professionalism of those in the field of economic development.
